Lawrence York

Founder, Chief Investment Officer

Lawrence York is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of ProActive Advisors, a Registered Investment Advisory firm specializing in financial planning and investment management services. He began his career at Dean Witter and E.F. Hutton & Company before acquiring a broker dealer where he served as the President & FINOP for eleven years. After selling the brokerage firm, Lawrence managed a Technology mutual fund for 9 years for which he was recognized by Morningstar Associates as a Five Star Fund manager. More

After graduate school, Lawrence worked automating client write-up and billing systems at CPA firms. A few years later he joined Dean Witter and was soon recruited to EF Hutton as a VP where he hired top-ranked money managers for clients and monitored their performance. In 1989 he joined Linsco Private Ledger (LPL Financial) going into private practice. From 1994 to 2005 he acquired 2 broker dealers where he served as President for 10 years. During this time, he added the Financial Operations and Municipal Securities Principal qualifications to his credentials. Following the sale of his broker dealers, Lawrence managed a technology mutual fund for 9 years, earning recognition as a Five Star Fund manager from Morningstar for his performance. After developing the 360Portfolios methodology anchored on an adapted Total Return process that focuses on compounding, Lawrence started ProActive Advisors.


Lawrence earned a BA in Political Science from Berea College, and an MBA in Finance from UK’s Gatton College of Business & Economics. He holds the Series 65 Investment Advisor license. Lawrence is married to Frankie Thompson York, founder and owner of New Editions Gallery. Together, they have two sons, John and Guy Harrison. Guy is pursuing a career in Ecological sciences as a researcher. John is an investment advisor with ProActive Advisors.

In 2008, Lawrence started ProActive Advisors to offer institutional-grade investment services to individuals, families, trusts, and small business owners. ProActive was launched around his 360Portfolios compound return methodology formulated to capture interest, dividends, and capital gains. Lawrence earned his MBA from the Gatton School of Business & Economics at the University of Kentucky and his BA in Political Science from Berea College. He is the author of several articles on investment management and fiduciary responsibility including "The Trustee's Guide For Oversight of 401k Plans." Lawrence is married to Frankie Thompson York owner of New Editions Gallery. Together they have 2 sons, John Lee and Guy Harrison.

John York

Investment Advisor Representative

John Lee York serves as an Investment Advisor Representative at ProActive Advisors and holds the Series 65 Investment Advisor license. John additionally is a Certified Financial Planner candidate. He joined ProActive Advisors in 2019 following a two-year internship. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he majored in Business and Political Science, John is responsible for monitoring account performance, conducting stock and bond research and fostering client relationships.


John is 28 years old and enjoys hiking with his Golden Retriever (Leo), traveling to see the world, and playing golf.

Kristie Medley

Marketing Director

Kristie is responsible for developing ProActive’s marketing plan including designing and publishing our advertising communications. She plays a crucial role, capable of multi-tasking and getting things done on time.


Kristie earned a Business degree from Marshall University and an MBA in Marketing from Eastern Kentucky University. Kristie attributes her ability to juggle various responsibilities to her strong faith in Christ, whom she considers a guiding force in her life. Kristie additionally offers marketing and operational assistance to small businesses in the Lexington area. She is the mother of two teenagers and is married to Roy Medley.
